Scientific Name:
Magnolia x soulangiana
Cultivar:
Native to:
Mature Height and Width:
20-30 feet by 20-30 feet
Additional Notes:
Truly an international effort, Saucer Magnolia is a hybrid created from two species of Chinese origin by a retired French cavalry officer following the War of 1812. In Carbondale, the stunning spring flower display is often cut short by a hard frost following a warm spring. Planting such trees on the protected side of large buildings can help preserve flowers from cold weather that is not too severe.
