A relative of the horsechestnut that is native to central Appalachia, yellow buckeye is capable of achieving great size. Its strong, lightweight, and durable wood was once prized for making artificial limbs and other timber products but now it is primarily valued for its showy yellow flowers and vibrant fall foliage.
