Northern and central Europe

40-60 feet by 25-30 feet, can reach 100 feet high

A stately native of Europe, forests of this species epitomize the deep, dark woods of the Grimm Fairy Tales and others of similar tradition.  Norway spruce typically thrives in more northerly climates, but sometimes struggles on drought-prone soils during the hot summers of southern Illinois.
