This tree is one of the 150 trees initially included in the arboretum to coincide with the campus's 150th anniversary celebration.

Additional Notes:
Saucer Magnolia is a hybrid created from two species of Chinese origin.   In this climate, the purple, pink and white flower display is often cut short by a hard frost following a warm period in the early spring.  Either way, the hope for a good flowering season continues to make the Saucer Magnolia a popular landscaping tree.
