Dozens of apple species and countless unique hybrids are found where these species are native. Many others have been developed and propagated by horticulturists. Some varieties produce large, palatable fruit and others a wide array of flower colors, sizes and shapes. For many of these species, the term apple and crabapple are used interchangeably.
