Scientific Name:
Taxodium ascendens

Native to:
Massachusetts to Florida, west to Minnesota and Arkansas

Mature Height and Width:
40-70 feet by 40-60 feet

Additional Notes:
Naturally occurring along stream sides and in wetland forests, river birch has become recognized as one of the most versatile trees for planting in poorly drained and acidic soil conditions.  The species is particularly useful where topsoils are severely degraded such as urbanized sites, reclaimed mine sites, and on highly eroded soils.
