This tree is one of the 150 trees initially included in the arboretum to coincide with the campus's 150th anniversary celebration.

East and Central North America, east of Rocky Mountains

Mature Height and Width:
40-50 feet by 8-20 feet

Additional Notes:
Eastern red cedar extends farther west onto the dry alkaline soils of the Great Planes than any of the eastern conifer species.  It is very versatile for constructing living windbreaks for protecting livestock and farmsteads from extreme weather in that region.
